It’s a story based on the huge impact of our food habits and lifestyle on nature, people ...

The Selby

09 March 2014

We all know The Selby. We all know Airbnb. But that the combination of those two would lead to the design of a chicken, is rather unexpected. So, next time, when traveling, house swapping, Airbnb-ing or couch surfing, make sure to pay some attention to the owner’s chickens (if they have some). Read more

If you visit Edinbugh, you need to try the David Bann licensed vegetarian restaurant.

Probably, these is Edinburgh’s vegetarian’s best. What we specifically liked about David Bann’s is the surprising and very complete menu, with a lot of non-traditional vegetarian options. On top of that, you will find David Bann’s restaurant downtown, which makes it the perfect spot to relax.

Anna Wright designs postcards, art prints, greeting cards and bags, all based on animals she meets outdoors and in wild-life. Although we’re not really sure there are that many chickens left outdoors or in the wild, we’re still very keen of her great style and attention to everyday animals.

Irving Harper is an industrial designer who created numerous paper sculptures. With this creative technique, he designs animals, masks and other figures. He combines the natural world with creative objects in a universal language.  Once again, everyday animals are an important inspiration, as he sculpts owls, chickens and goats. Egg free mayo by Hampton Creek Foods

02 March 2014

A friend of Jushua Balk, founder of Hampton Creek Foods, told him about problems with eggs, like the high cholesterol and the bad conditions for the chickens while they lays their eggs. Furthermore he told about the environmental impact of big agriculture. Balk started to think about these elements and realised the world is growing really fast. Because of the growth and the need for protein, we will need a substitute for eggs.

Balk decided to set up his own company: Hampton Creek Foods. The mission of Hampton ...

Welcome. The Next Big 5.

Welcome to The Next Big 5. "Tales about everyday animals."

There are billions of everyday animals. But most of us haven’t seen all of them in real live yet: the everyday sheep, cows, chickens, pigs and salmon.

They aren’t the Big 5. Nor are they the European Big 5. I believe they are The Next Big 5. They should be for sure. This project is all about tales of everyday animals. Animals we never see but live among us, in numbers we even can’t imagine.

This is a showcase of heroes, The Next Big 5 heroes. And alongside them, many other ...

Amy Blackwell - Chicken Illustrations

20 Februari 2014

Amy Blackwell, Nottingham based and one half of the creative duo known as Audrey and Illya, made a series of Chicken illustrations. The Plump One, The Colourful One and The Fussy One. I especially like the fussy one, because let’s be honest, they are. You will notice soon enough that once you’ve met a chicken in real life, they’re friendly & very cuddly.

Shop for these prints here or visit Amy’s website here.

Dana Schwarts internship at Farm Sanctuary

16 Februari 2014

“There is no fully working Internet connection here, no phone service at times; Sometimes the water freezes in the pipes and there is little to do here. So why did I come here, you ask- well I came to volunteer at a Farm Sanctuary animal shelter.”

Dana Schwartz left her comfort zone in the city for a two months internship at Farm Sanctuary (Orland). Farm Sanctuary is a well known sanctuary (with already three locations, two in CA, one in NY) co-founded by Gene Baur. “The shelter is a farm, like any other farm you'd imagine - with barns and pastures and fences and even ...
